Adding this capability brings a powerful method to share data between those applications, directly with ArcGIS. Many types of BIM software vendors export to IFC. This widely used schema helps designers share BIM content from any source that supports the standard. It is used for transferring model data between software systems. Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) is a standard for openBIM data exchange. The result is more BIM content in ArcGIS workflows. This expands the current BIM integrations that include Autodesk Revit (.rvt) and Autodesk Civil 3D (.dwg) files as sources. As a result, ArcGIS Pro can now directly read BIM files in IFC format. Direct Read of IFC BIM ModelsĪt the release of ArcGIS Pro 2.8 in May 2021, Esri introduced some new capabilities for CAD and BIM integration. Ultimately, these advances help with project collaboration, critical stakeholder engagements, and innovative project delivery solutions.

As a result, we are beginning to see some great opportunities emerge. The divisions between GIS, BIM, and CAD workflows continue to fade. Esri’s continued focus on the integration of BIM and CAD with GIS have created some exciting results to share with you. It has been a busy time for BIM and CAD advances in ArcGIS.
